Discovery Hall Programs educator Lauren Still leads the discussion at the touch table during Cocktails with the Critters on May 2, 2019.

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab Foundation hosted two large fundraising events in the month of May.

Cocktails with the Critters opened the month with more than 450 people in attendance at the Bluegill Restaurant on the Causeway. Major sponsors Hancock Whitney and WKRG helped to make the evening a success to raise money to support the programs and facilities at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. Eric Erdman provided music for the evening, and the Bluegill delivered a great spread of food.

Mimi deGruy delivers the welcome at the Alabama premiere of Diving Deep: The Life and Times of Mike deGruy on May 16, 2019.

The Foundation also held a beautiful evening tribute to Mobile native Mike deGruy with the Alabama premiere of Diving Deep: The Life and Times of Mike deGruy. More than 300 people attended the premiere of the documentary produced by Mimi deGruy. The film has been shown only a few times to select audiences. Mimi appreciated the support of Mike’s hometown in sharing his story. Mike died in a helicopter crash in 2012. At the time, he was working on a project with James Cameron. Proceeds from the evening will support the Mike deGruy Scholarship fund.

Look to the fall, as the Foundation will host the Marine Environmental Awards Luncheon in November.

You can support the Foundation any time during the year by making a donation or becoming a Friend of the Sea Lab. Look for more information on their website the sealabfoundation.org.
