Wiese Lecture Series 

The 19th annual Wiese Distinguished Lecutre Series will present Dr. Donald Anderson, Senior Scientist in the Biology Department of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He also serves as Director of the Coastal Ocean Institute. A public lecture will be held Monday, October 2 at 7 p.m. in the University of South Alabama Student Center Ballroom.

University Programs' Seminars 

The next University Programs seminar will host University of Southern Mississippi's Dr. Leila Hamdan on Thursday, October 19. Dr. Hamdan is a molecular microbial ecologist and her studies focus on geomicrobiology and the impact of changing environmental conditions on the structure and function of marine and estuarine communities.  Seminars are set up by University Programs faculty cover a variety of topics throughout the year. Students on and off campus are invited to attend to learn more about what is happening in the marine science community. Topics include oysters, restoration, hypoxia, and more. The majority of seminars are streamed live and archived to the Dauphin Island Sea Lab YouTube channel. Register today for Teacher Workshop, Exploring the Deep Ocean with NOAA

Discovery Hall Programs invites all educators to Explore the Deep Ocean with NOAA at their teacher workshop on Friday, November 17. The deadline to register is November 3. Educators will learn more about the importance of deep ocean exploration and the current technologies used to explore the deep ocean. Ocean health, unique underwater habitats, undewater mapping and remotely operated vehicles are just a few of the topics to be addressed.  To learn how to register, log onto disl.org/dhp.

Marine Environmental Awards Luncheon

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab Foundation will host the Fifth Annual Marine Environmental Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Renaissance Riverview Hotel in downtown Mobile.  This will be a wonderful luncheon featuring award-wining Scientist, Dr. Carl Safina.  Awards will also be presented to an individual and a business or organization that have made outstanding contributions to marine environmental sustainability in the Alabama Gulf Coast Region.
