Birds of Coastal Alabama

Students explore the biology of bird through classroom exploration of bird biofacts – skulls, feathers, beaks, bones, eggs and more. They investigate life cycles and the phenomenon of migration and hear how local scientists are studying birds. The educator discusses current and past threats to bird populations and why healthy populations of birds are important.

Students are introduced to basic bird identification skills and receive training in the use of binoculars (provided) and then visit habitats on Dauphin Island (walking or by bus) to see local and migrating bird species.
