Kyle grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee where at a young age was encouraged to explore the Great Smoky Mountains and the foothills around him. He garnered a love of marine animal life while visiting with family in southern Florida. Inspired by this love, Kyle participated in the Marine Science High School summer course at the DISL. He then pursued a degree in Organismal/Marine Biology at Spring Hill College where he spent 2 summers at DISL taking classes and eventually went on to complete a master’s degree in Marine Science at the University of South Alabama. While in graduate school, he was able to participate in a research cruise in the Gulf of Alaska and the northern Pacific Ocean.

Kyle joined Discovery Hall Programs in the summer of 2021 and enjoys being able to share his knowledge of the Gulf’s flora and fauna with a soft spot for plankton. In his free time, he enjoys scuba diving, gardening, baking, and playing with his cat, Coal.
