Underwater Research & Field Operations

This course will introduce students to a variety of topics to consider when conducting underwater research and field operations and provide experience with common skills needed for field research. In class activities will involve obtaining certifications (FirstAid/CPR, vessel operation, snorkeling), developing appropriate documentation (cruise plans, EAPs, SOPs,etc.), equipment and instrument preparation, and general logistical planning.

To reinforce the lectures, students will execute a field operation to deploy and recover instruments and equipment and collect biological samples. Students will also be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification participate in a Discovery SCUBA experience if they choose.
