The Alabama Aquarium at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab will temporarily close its doors on May 8, 2023, for renovations aimed at delivering a fresh perspective of the Alabama Watershed.

While the beginning of the summer is not an ideal time to temporarily close the Aquarium, the continued COVID-driven impacts of supply and production lines influenced the timing of renovations.

The Aquarium, which has been a popular attraction for residents and tourists, will remain closed until July 2023.

“These renovations will enhance our exhibits and provide visitors with a more immersive and interactive experience,” Executive Director Dr. John Valentine said. “We apologize for the inconvenience, but we promise the upgrades will be well worth the wait.”

The renovations include a refresh of graphics and an improvement of visitor flow.

The Alabama Aquarium aquarists will work to ensure that all animals are safe and well-cared for during the renovation period.

The Alabama Aquarium is grateful for the support of its visitors and the local community and looks forward to welcoming everyone back when the renovations are complete.
