It’s summertime and The Sea Lab invites you to explore our oceans during a day camp or summer excursion. See what’s available below:

9:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Estuarium at The Sea Lab, Dauphin Island
$12 per person. Space is limited. Reservations Recommended.

Salt marshes are not monotonous expanses of grass; they’re fascinating coastal wetlands that are critical to our estuary system. Be a marine scientist for a day, and use seine nets, buckets, shovels, and sieve boxes to collect samples, including crabs, snails, and fish (we’ll release animals back to the marsh). You’ll learn about the important role salt marshes play in the Gulf of Mexico and how they support the seafood we enjoy.

Beach, Dune, and Maritime Forest Excursions
June 4, June 11, June 25, and July 2, 2019
9:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Estuarium at The Sea Lab, Dauphin Island
$12 per person. Space is limited. Reservations Recommended.

There’s more to a barrier island than sand and water – the beach is a thriving habitat with a dynamic dune system and fascinating plants and animals, and higher elevations are covered by lush forest. We’ll walk through the maritime forest, then on to the dunes and beach.

This day-long camp for ages 8-10 turns campers into Barrier Island Observers. Campers will set out on an expedition across many of the diverse habitats of Dauphin Island, including the beach, salt marsh, and maritime forest. They will document their findings, through various creative media, along with their journey. While exploring barrier island ecology, students should be prepared to get wet, sandy and muddy.

Survivor: Dauphin Island Day Camp
Ages 10-13
June 14, July 5 or July 30, 2019

Campers, ages 10-13 years old, will learn about Alabama's fishes, and which ones are edible, how to toss a cast net, how to bait a crab trap, how to drag a seine and how to bring in the catch of the day while pier fishing. Campers will also get up close and personal with their catches as they learn about each different species brought ashore! You never know exactly what you’ll reel in! There will be swim time and an afternoon snack provided in addition to frequent water breaks.
