(September 10, 2019) --

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab invites you to celebrate National Estuaries Day on Saturday, September 14 at the Estuarium.

Celebrated every year, National Estuaries Day brings to focus the importance and benefit of estuaries. An estuary is where freshwater and saltwater mix as rivers and oceans converge. Mobile Bay is an estuary.

Estuaries are popular spots for fishing, boating, birding, and hiking. The marshes, creeks, and streams lining an estuary are nursing grounds for fish, shrimp, and oysters. Animals rely on estuaries for food, places to breed and as migration stopovers.

Visit the Estuarium on Saturday, September 14 to learn more about these delicate ecosystems with activities between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
