Combine data analysis and crafting, explore processes that drive sea level change, and take on the role of community stakeholders as we focus on community adaptations to sea level rise.

In this virtual workshop we will explore the most recent NASA data on sea level change and graph that data into a friendship bracelet. To better understand the processes that drive sea level rise, we will conduct experiments related to melting ice and thermal expansion, and we will assume the roles of local stakeholders as we focus on the impacts and solutions that allow communities to adapt to sea level change. Meet a NASA scientist!

This fun-filled workshop will include:

  • An introduction to the Sea Level Education, Awareness and Literacy (SEAL) program.
  • Interactive lessons with hands-on activities and a slide presentation that support current NGSS standards.
  • Reflection and discussion of how to implement the provided materials.
  • Easy access to NASA educational resources.

Registration is REQUIRED and space is LIMITED.

Workshop participants will receive a certificate for 2 hours of continuing education credits, a workshop kit, a link to all activities, and a $100 stipend will upon completion of all related paperwork. Alabama Teachers: TEAMS credit available.

Please note that due to the funding source, priority is given to active science educators. Retired, pre-service educators, or educators of subjects other than science may register but will be placed on a waiting list. Registration for all will be opened one week prior to the workshop and available spaces will be filled from the existing wait list.
